My bare root rose has red feather-like growth coming out of the canes. Is this normal?Updated 2 months ago
This is completely normal new growth and nothing to worry about on your plant. It's a sign that your rose is healthy and ready to thrive!
The growth at the bottom of the plant is known as basal breaks or new cane growth. These new shoots will develop into the foundation of your rose plant. The growth on the middle and top of the canes is the buds pushing and leafing out. It's important not to remove these red feather-like growths, as they will eventually become the canes that produce the beautiful flowers on your bare root rose plant.
Don't be alarmed by the red color of the plant material. It's perfectly normal for new rose growth and is not indicative of Rose Rosette disease.
